Discover the Art of Ikebana Flowers in Bud Vases (July 12, 2025) 各自の作品を持って記念撮影！(Group photo with everyone's creations!) 2025年7月12日（米国時間）、JCWは「花のある暮らし～一輪挿しの生け花体験～」イベントを開催しました。今回のイベントは、ダラス・フォートワース日米協会（JASDFW）との初のコラボレーション企画として、同協会が入居するオフィスの会議室にて行われました。 本イベントでは、生け花歴40年以上で池坊華道教授の石原意子さんが講師となり、参加者の皆さまに身近なお花を使った一輪挿しの体験を提供されると同時に、2024年に日本の無形文化財に指定された「華道」の魅力を歴史的・文化的背景とともにご紹介しました。 「お花を飾る」と聞くと、多くの方がまず思い浮かべるのは、カラフルでボリュームのあるフラワーアレンジメントかもしれません。けれど、日本の伝統文化である生け花は、まったく異なる哲学と美意識に基づいているそうです。 フラワーアレンジメントは、色彩やボリューム、華やかさを重視し、360度どこから見ても美しいデザインを作ることを目指します。花の種類も豊富に使い、自由に空間を埋めていくスタイルです。 一方で、生け花は「引き算の美学」とも言われます。空間や「間」を大切にし、枝の傾きや花器とのバランス、四季の移ろいを感じさせる構成など、自然の中にある一瞬の美しさを静かに表現するものです。正面から見ることを前提としており、見る人の心に「余白」を残すような佇まいが特徴とのこと。 実際に石原先生や生徒さんの作品を見て、その意味がよくわかりました。 その他、バラやアジサイといった日常のお花を長く美しく楽しむための手入れのコツも紹介され、実生活に活かせる知識として好評を博しました。 先生による講義のあと、いよいよ生け花体験の時間が始まりました。参加者の皆さんは、さまざまな種類のお花の中から自分の「一輪」をじっくりと選び、それぞれが持参した花瓶に思い思いのスタイルで花を生けていきました。 一人ひとりが花と向き合うひととき。初めての方も、日ごろからお花を飾る習慣がある方も、「一輪に心をこめる」生け花の奥深さと楽しさを感じていただけたようでした。 また、JCWスタッフもイベントサポートの合間に生け花体験に参加する機会を得、それぞれが思い思いのスタイルで花を生けるひとときを楽しみました。 普段は裏方として動くスタッフも、一輪の花に心を込める時間を通して、生け花の魅力を改めて実感することができ、貴重な体験となりました。 本イベントを通じて、参加者の皆さまが日本の美意識や季節の移ろいを感じる時間を楽しんでいただけたことを、スタッフ一同嬉しく思います。 今後もJCWでは、日米の文化をつなぐさまざまな企画をお届けしてまいります。 ご参加いただいた皆さま、そして共催いただいたダラス・フォートワース日米協会（JASDFW）の皆さまに、心より感謝申し上げます。 そして何より、丁寧で温かなご指導をくださった講師の石原意子さん、 参加者一人ひとりに寄り添う素敵な体験を、本当にありがとうございました！ これからもJCWは、人と文化をつなぐ場づくりを続けてまいります。 On July 12, 2025 (U.S. time), JCW hosted a special cultural event titled “Discover the Art of Ikebana Flowers in Bud Vases” This event marked our first collaboration with the Japan-America Society of Dallas/Fort Worth (JASDFW) and was held in the conference room of their office. The workshop was led by Ms. Motoko Ishihara, a Professor of the Ikenobo School with over 40 years of experience in ikebana. In addition to offering hands-on instruction in single-stem flower arranging using everyday flowers, she introduced participants to the deep cultural and historical roots of ikebana, which was designated an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Japan in 2024. When we hear the phrase “flower arranging,” many of us might first imagine the colorful and voluminous styles of Western floral arrangements. However, as we learned during the workshop, ikebana is guided by an entirely different philosophy and aesthetic rooted in Japanese tradition. Western floral arrangements emphasize color, volume, and vibrancy, aiming for a visually striking design from all angles. Multiple flowers and greenery are freely used to create lush compositions. In contrast, ikebana is known as the “art of subtraction.” It values space and “ma” (the pause or interval), with a focus on balance between the branches and the vase, the natural line of the plant, and the seasonal atmosphere. Arrangements are typically designed to be viewed from the front, inviting the viewer into a moment of quiet contemplation. Seeing the works of Ms. Ishihara and her students, we were able to truly understand this concept firsthand. Participants also appreciated practical tips shared during the session on how to care for flowers like roses and hydrangeas to enjoy them longer at home. After the lecture, it was time for the hands-on experience. Participants thoughtfully selected a single flower from a variety laid out on the table, and then arranged it freely in their own vases, which they had brought with them. This was a quiet, meditative moment where each participant was able to connect with the flower, regardless of whether they were new to ikebana or regularly incorporated flowers into their daily life. Many commented on how much they appreciated the depth and quiet beauty of expressing themselves through a single bloom. JCW staff members also had the opportunity to participate in the ikebana session during breaks in event support. It was a rare and meaningful experience for them to step out from behind the scenes and personally engage with the art, each creating their own unique arrangements. Through this, they also gained a renewed appreciation for the timeless beauty of ikebana. We at JCW were delighted to see how the event allowed participants to experience Japanese aesthetics and the subtle transitions of the seasons through the practice of ikebana. We will continue to offer meaningful programs that bridge cultures between Japan and the U.S. We extend our heartfelt thanks to all the participants and to our event partner, the Japan-America Society of Dallas/Fort Worth (JASDFW). JCW - 2025年夏のインターンプログラム (2025 Summer Internship Program) キックオフミーティングで記念撮影！(At the Kick-off Meeting) 毎年恒例となっている、津田塾大学との夏インターンプログラムが、今年もスタートしました！今年は10名の学生さんが参加し、3つのチームに分かれてプロジェクトに取り組みます。 Team 1: グローバルメンタープログラムのリサーチ・運営サポート業務 Team 2: UnlimitedとUNTとのオンラインイベント企画運営 Team 3: JCWの団体運営に関する各種リサーチ インターン期間中は、JCWスタッフに加えて、東京学生支部Unlimitedのメンバーや、地元テキサス州にあるUNT (University of North Texas)の学生さんとも協働し、国境を越えたコラボレーションが展開されます。 学生のみなさんにとって、たくさんの学びや気づきが生まれる1か月間となりますように。 私たちJCWも、一緒に楽しみながら活動していくのを楽しみにしています！ Our annual summer internship program with Tsuda University has officially begun!This year, 10 students are participating and have been divided into three teams, each working on a dedicated project. Team 1: Research and operational support for the Global Mentor Program Team 2: Planning and managing an online event in collaboration with Unlimited and the University of North Texas (UNT) Team 3: Research related to the organizational development and operations of JCW During the program, interns will collaborate not only with JCW staff, but also with members of Unlimited, our student chapter in Tokyo, as well as students from UNT (University of North Texas) in Texas. Together, they’ll engage in meaningful cross-cultural collaboration. We hope this one-month internship becomes a valuable opportunity for all students to gain new insights and learning experiences. We at JCW are looking forward to working together and making the most of this exciting journey!

Early Summer Tea Ceremony (May 31, 2025) 米国時間の5月31日、「初夏のお茶会」を開催しました。 今回のイベントには、過去に茶道のお茶会に参加された経験者の方々に加え、初めてお茶会を経験される方も参加くださり、和やかで温かな雰囲気の中で始まりました。 冒頭では、お茶会に参加する際の心構えや、茶道に込められた精神についてご紹介しました。今回ご披露したお点前は、茶箱を用いた「卯の花点前」。初夏の風情にふさわしいお点前です。その歴史的背景や成り立ちについてもお話しさせていただきました。 お点前のデモンストレーションをご覧いただき、静かな時間の流れと、所作の美しさを体感していただきました。 お点前の後はテーブル席に移動し、日本の伝統的な和菓子とともにお抹茶を楽しみながら、参加者同士での交流を深めました。 初夏にふさわしい、心豊かで穏やかな午後のひとときを、皆さまとご一緒できたことを心より嬉しく思います。 On May 31 (U.S. time), we held our “Early Summer Tea Ceremony” This event welcomed not only guests with prior experience in tea ceremony gathering, but also first-time participants who were new to the world of tea. The gathering began in a warm and relaxed atmosphere. We opened with a brief introduction to the mindset and spirit of tea, sharing the deeper meaning and values embedded in the practice of tea ceremony. This time, we featured the Unohana-demae —a seasonal tea procedure using a compact chabako  (tea box), perfectly suited to the refreshing mood of early summer. We also provided a brief explanation of its historical background and origin. Guests enjoyed the demonstration, allowing them to experience the quiet flow of time and the refined beauty of each gesture. Following the demonstration, participants moved to table seating to enjoy traditional Japanese sweets and matcha, while engaging in friendly conversation and networking. We are truly grateful to have shared such a peaceful and enriching afternoon with everyone—a moment that perfectly captured the spirit of early summer.

留学生と一緒にイギリスの文化を楽しみました！ 参加者のみなさんと国際交流を楽しむことができました！😊✨ English will follow 5/8に津田塾大学小平キャンパスでCulture Dayを開催しました！ 留学生から自分の国の魅力を紹介してもらい、様々な国の文化を体験できるイベントです！ 第２回は、イギリス！🇬🇧 イギリス出身の留学生から、イギリスの美味しい食べ物や地元の街の様子についてプレゼンをしてもらいました！ 今回はなんと、一橋大学や国際基督教大学からもイギリス出身の留学生が津田塾大学のキャンパスを訪問、参加してくれ、大学の枠を超えて素敵な国際交流の機会を作ることができました✨ 特にイギリス文化ゲームやクイズは大盛り上がりで、約30名の参加者の皆さんと一緒にイギリスのお菓子を楽しみながら沢山お話することができました！☺️🙌 イギリス産の美味しい紅茶のお土産も！☕️✨ 次回はベトナムのCulture Dayを開催予定です！🇻🇳✨ぜひご参加ください！ On May 8th, Unlimited hosted a Culture Day at Tsuda University in Kodaira, Tokyo! Culture Day is our original event where international students introduce their own cultures, and participants can enjoy the cultures from various countries! This is the second time and we featured the UK!🇫🇷 International students from the UK gave a special presentation about the great foods in the UK and the environment of their home town! In this time, international students from other universities (Hitotsubashi University and ICU) visited the campus of Tsuda University and also joined us! フリーランスアドバイザーとして活躍する方からお話を伺いました！ とても貴重なお話を伺うことができました！ English will follow 4月24日、津田塾大学千駄ヶ谷キャンパスに大杉さんをお招きして、対面＆オンラインのハイブリッド形式でインタビュー企画を行いました。 大杉さんは現在、フリーランスのアドバイザーとして活躍されています。 イギリス大学院進学や外資系企業への勤務、転職、資格取得など、現在のお仕事に至るまでの幅広いお話を聞かせてくださいました。 中でも、「後悔のないように、やりたいと思ったことはやっておくべき」という言葉がとても心に残りました。 そして、常に学び続け、自分の興味や目指す方向に向かって挑戦し続ける姿に、大きな刺激を受けました。 Unlimitedメンバーも、「大杉さんのように自分の“やってみたい”気持ちを大切にしながら、行動していきたい！」と強く感じました。 ご参加くださった皆さま、ありがとうございました！ 次回のイベントもぜひお楽しみにしていてください🌿　 On April 24th, we welcomed Ms. Ōsugi on the Tsuda University campus in Sendagaya, Tokyo for an interview event held in a hybrid format, both in person and online. Ms. Ōsugi is currently working as a freelance advisor, and she shared a wide range of stories about her journey-from graduate school in the UK and career changes to obtaining certifications, all the way to her current work. One message that particularly stayed with me was: “If there’s something you want to do, do it so you won’t regret it.” Her commitment to continuous learning and her drive to pursue her interests and goals was truly inspiring. It made members of Unlimited realize how important it is to cherish my own desire to try new things and take action, just like she does. Thank you to everyone who joined us! We hope you’re looking forward to our next event as well🌿 沢山の素敵な言葉から勇気をいただくことができました✨

Lean In JCW Circle "4 ways to be an ally to other women" (Apr 23, 2025) 米国時間の4月23日、少人数制のオンラインキャリア勉強会「Lean In JCW Circle」を開催しました。 今回のテーマは 「4 ways to be an ally to other women（他の女性たちの味方になる4つの方法）」 。 多様な価値観を尊重し合いながら、女性たちが安心して活躍できる社会をつくるにはどうすればよいのか。グループディスカッションや個別ワークを通じて、「アライ（Ally）」として互いにどのように支え合えるかを深く掘り下げました。 さまざまな地域からのご参加、ありがとうございました！ 【Lean In JCW Circleとは？】 JCWでは、年に4回（3か月に1回）、少人数制の オンラインキャリア勉強会 を実施しています。 参加費は無料 。 どなたでもご参加いただけます。 現在お仕事をされている方 キャリアの合間にいる方 社会に出る準備をしている学生さん 女性も男性も、どなたでも大歓迎です！ お気軽にご参加ください。お会いできるのを楽しみにしています！ On April 23 (U.S. time), we hosted our small-group online career session, Lean In JCW Circle .
