ウガンダの女性が誇るファッショナブルブランドを世界へ、カラフル・プレイフル・サステナブル (Aug.27, 2021) Uganda Fabric Design - Colorful, Playful, Sustainable ダラス時間8月27日金曜日の夜に、カラフルなアフリカンプリントを使用したバッグやインテリアアイテム、アパレルを企画・製造・販売するRICCI EVERYDAYの創業者、仲本千津さんをゲストスピーカーにお招きしてイベントを開催しました！ RICCI EVERYDAYを代表する商品、アケロバッグ（ウガンダ語で「幸せを運ぶ」という意味）が生まれた経緯、商品コンセプトの説明から始まり創業のきっかけとなった４人の子供のシングルマザーとの出会い、仲本さんが解決したい課題と実現したい社会について、素材調達・生産・物流・販売までの流れ、ソーシャルインパクトをより大きくするための提案等多岐に渡ってのトピックスについて講演下さりました。Q&Aセッションでも参加者より沢山の質問を頂きました。 イベント最後はBreakout Roomに分かれての交流会となり大盛況の内に終了しました。 仲本さん、そして参加して下さった皆さん、どうもありがとうございました！

津田塾大学＆DJCW (Dallas Japanese Career Women)インターンプログラム終了のご報告 Report on Summer Internship Program with Tsuda University (Tokyo, Japan) and DJCW ７月下旬より１か月間津田塾大学とのサマーインターンプログラムを実施し、先月末に無事に終了しました。大学生１３名を受け入れ３つのチームに分かれてプロジェクトを進めたり、大学生座談会（ダラス時間８月５日夜実施）のファシリを学生二人一組となり担当したりと盛り沢山の内容でした！ チーム１は「広報・国際協力ソーシャルビジネス」、チーム２は「ファンドレージング＆アワード企画立案」、チーム３は「学生ネットワーク・プランニング企画立案」に取り組みとても充実した１か月となりました。インターンプログラムを担当したDJCW運営事務局スタッフにとっても、若いパワーを沢山もらい有意義な経験でした。 また、チーム１はインターン業務の一環としてRICCI EVERYDAYの創業者仲本千津さん（ダラス時間８月２７日夜実施の「世界で働く日本人女性と繋がろうシリーズ第４弾・ウガンダ編」にご登壇）にインタビューし記事を作成しました。当ウエブサイトにインタビュー記事が掲載されていますので、ぜひ目を通してみて下さい！ 最終発表会では各チームが３０分の持ち時間でスライドを使いながら一人一人がプレゼンしました。各チームより若い感性による素晴らしい活動提案を頂きました。 DJCWスタッフにとっても沢山の学びや気づきがありました。これからもDJCWは社会に出ていく学生さんを応援していきますのでどうぞよろしくお願いします。 DJCW offered a Summer internship program from the end of July for a month. We had 13 students from Tsuda University (Tokyo, Japan) and promoted projects with three teams. During the program, the interns also experienced as facilitators for our event, "Online session for college students & Japanese professionals in the US", held on August 5, 2021, CDT. Team 1 was in charge of "Public Relations, International Cooperation and Social Business", Team 2 was in charge of "Fundraising & Award Planning" and Team 3 was in charge of "College students network platform planning". All the projects were successful. Staff from DJCW were also empowered by the interns. For the Team 1, one of their assignment was to interview Ms. Chizu Nakamoto, a founder of RICCI EVERYDAY (a guest speaker for our event "Connect with Japanese career women in the globe, the 4th event, Uganda” held on August 27th, Dallas). The article is posted in our website! On the last day of the program, each team gave a 30-minutes-presentation using PowerPoint slides. Every team provided us great proposals with their fresh eyes. It was also great learning opportunities for all our staff members. We will continue to support college students who will soon play important roles in our society!

大学生・在米社会人のオンライン座談会 (Aug. 5, 2021) Chit Chat Session with univeristy students in Japan and Japanese career women in the USA ダラス時間８月５日木曜日の夜に、日本の大学生とアメリカで働く日本人女性たちをつなぐ無料オンライン座談会が開催されました。このイベントではこの夏DJCWでインターンをしてくれている日本の大学生の皆さんがファシリテーターとして大活躍してくれました！

Assistant Operations Manager Vantec Hitachi Transport System (USA), INC Yuka Churchill Q1. 現在はどのようなお仕事をされていますか？ What is your occupation? Answer 日系物流会社にて航空貨物と海上貨物の輸出輸入の物流業務に携わっております。飛行機、船舶、鉄道、車両など、あらゆる輸送手段を組み合わせて、必要な手続きと書類の手配、そしてコンプライアンスに沿った貨物の輸送を手配しております。 I work for a Japanese logistics company that takes care of exports and imports using air and sea transportation. I combine every possible transportation, such as air, shipping vessels, railways, and trucks. My job involves making arrangements for necessary procedures such as preparing documents and making sure that required compliances are met. Q2. お仕事でやりがいを感じるのはどのような時ですか？ What is the most rewarding part of your work? Answer 貨物の手配にあたり、世界各国のエージェントや航空会社、船会社、トラックの運転手など様々な方とコミュニケーションをとり、輸送を手配する時です。まるで指揮者やプロデューサーのようで楽しいです。無事に手配完了すると達成感が湧きます。また、物流に関しては専門知識が必要なのに加えて、マルチタスク、細部に気を配ること、仕事の早さが必要とされるところにもやりがいを感じます。 I feel rewarded at work when I take care of arrangements for the transportation of cargos and communicate with agents around the world, airlines, shipping vessels, and trucking companies. I enjoy my work because I feel as if I were a conductor and a producer. In addition, I feel my job is highly valued because it requires specialized knowledge, multi-tasking skills, care for others, and speed. Q3. 逆にお仕事で大変だと感じるのはどのような時ですか？ On the other hand, what are the difficult parts of your work? Answer コロナ渦のため、2020年は海上、空輸共に突然の欠航、減便が多々ありました。この状況の中で、納期に間に合うよう手配する時が大変でした。 In 2020, both shipping vessels and air freights were cancelled or reduced because of the COVID-19 pandemic. I struggled to make arrangements for on-time delivery in this situation. Q4. これから仕事面、プライベートどちらでも何かチャレンジしたいことはありますか？ Is there something new that you would like to try, either for your work or private life? Answer 最近は、出社前の時間を利用して趣味を満喫するエクストリーム出社に興味があります。出社の3，4時間前に起床し、読書したりプールで泳いだりと早朝の自由な時間を満喫して、心のバランスを整え、リフレッシュした気持ちで仕事に臨みたいです。 Recently, I am interested in a new work style called “Extreme Commuting”, where I use my time before work to enjoy my hobbies. I get up three or four hours before work and spend that time by reading books and swimming in the pool in the early morning to balance my mind. After that, I get to work feeling refreshed.

Answer シンガポールにて日本食レストランおよびスーパーの運営をしています。日本から直接食材を仕入れているので輸入業務も行っており、販売業務としてはオンラインショップも運営してます。 I manage Japanese restaurants and supermarkets in Singapore. We import food from Japan as well as sell merchandise in an online store. Q2. お仕事でやりがいを感じるのはどのような時ですか？ What is the most rewarding part of your work? Answer 人と関わる仕事が好きなので、日本の販売者様と一緒に商品開発をし、売上につながった時やレストランでお客様が楽しそうにお食事してる姿を見る時はうれしく思います。日本の産地とシンガポールのお客様との橋渡し役だと思っているのでそれが実感できた瞬間はこの仕事をしていて良かったといつも思います。 I like interacting with people and feel happy when I am able to sell merchandise after developing it with Japanese sellers. I also feel encouraged to see customers enjoying our food at restaurants. I believe I am a bridge between Japanese food producers and customers in Singapore, so it satisfies me to see my efforts pay off. Q3. 逆にお仕事で大変だと感じるのはどのような時ですか？ On the other hand, what are the difficult parts of your work? Answer 日本とシンガポールでは地理的、文化的背景も異なり、味覚も異なり、ギャップを埋めるのは大変で、当地で生産者様の思いを伝えることや当地の傾向を日本側に伝えるのは難しいなぁと感じます。 ​ I feel it is a bit of challenge to make customers in Singapore understand the thoughts and feelings of Japanese producers. On the other hand, it is also difficult to make Japanese producers understand trends in Singapore because Japan and Singapore have very different locations and culture, as well as a different taste for food. Q4. これから仕事面、プライベートどちらでも何かチャレンジしたいことはありますか？ Is there something new that you would like to try, either for your work or private life? Answer 今は取締役として経営に関わっているのですが、地元の商品を中心に当地に伝えられるような別会社を起業したいです。 ​ I am in charge of management as a director. I would like to start a company that focuses on local merchandise in Singapore to promote sales to local people.

Accounting Supervisor Chemical Company in Japan Kaori Sato Q1. 現在はどのようなお仕事をされていますか？ What is your occupation? Answer 化学メーカーに入社して、約20年くらい経ちます。現在は経理関係の部署に異動して3年が経ちました。仕事は決算関係の業務とグループ会社間の契約を担当しています。 数値については、原価計算、管理会計、予算や決算数値の分析を行うなど、社内外向けの様々な数値を取りまとめて報告しています。基本的には日々数値と格闘しています。 I have been working for a chemical company in Japan for 20 years. For the past three years, I am in charge of accounting, such as closing and coordination among group companies. Additionally, I am in charge of cost and managerial accounting, variance analysis on budget and actuals, and I report financial statements for the company both internally and externally. Basically, I crunch numbers. Q2. お仕事でやりがいを感じるのはどのような時ですか？ What is the most rewarding part of your work? Answer 全社の数値を扱っているので、会社の動きとして好不調の状況がよくわかることです。 数値に関わる業務以外では、グループ会社の窓口となるケースが多いため、他部署や関係会社から様々な案件の相談を受けることが多いです。扱っている数値がきれいにまとまった時や相談者の悩みや問題が解消された時にやりがいを感じます。私の場合は、直接の顧客は社内の方になりますが、その向こうには現場の方、その向こうにはお客様に繋がることをイメージし、皆さんの仕事が円滑に進むお手伝いをするのが今の役割だと思っています。 As I deal with company's financial data, I follow our company's ups and downs. I serve as a window person for the group companies, and I often receive questions and requests from business partners. I feel rewarded when I am able to consolidate financial data and help my business partners resolve their issues. Although I deal with people from the same group companies, I always think of customers who are outside of our companies. Q3. 逆にお仕事で大変だと感じるのはどのような時ですか？ On the other hand, what are the difficult parts of your work? Answer 毎日、大変です(笑) 今は時短をしていることもあって、その短い時間の中でやってもやっても仕事が終わらない気がします。そのため、休みがなかなか取れないのがちょっと辛いです。 ​ Every day is a challenge! Currently, I am working shorter hours, so I feel a day is not enough to finish my work and it is difficult for me to take vacation. Q4. これから仕事面、プライベートどちらでも何かチャレンジしたいことはありますか？ Is there something new that you would like to try, either for your work or private life? Answer 仕事面では、チャレンジというか、数字に強くなるために勉強していきたいです。 プライベート面では、いつかコロナが落ち着いて、海外旅行に行けるようになったら、家族で色々な国へ旅しにいきたいです。 ​ It is not exactly a challenge, but I would like to deepen my knowledge on accounting. In my private life, I would like to travel abroad with my family after the pandemic.

皆さん、こんにちは！Yukoです。いよいよ ダラスも夏本番に近づいてきましたね。 アメリカではなかなか目にしませんが、日本では日傘を使って 徹底的に紫外線を予防している方も多いですよね。 さて、皆さんは基礎化粧品にどれくらい投資をしていますか? いくら高価な基礎化粧品を使っていても日ごろのダメージが大きければなかなか効果を感じられませんよね。 紫外線が お肌に良くないと聞いたことがある方はあるかもしれませんが、 基礎化粧品の中で1番お金をかけないといけないものは日焼け止めだ、と言う皮膚科がいるくらい 紫外線は 避けた方が良いもののようです。 ファンデーションの前に日焼け止めを塗る方は 多いと思いますが、そのあと塗り直しをしていますか？ 日焼け止めの効果を持続させるためにも塗り直しは必ず必要です。 クリームタイプの日焼け止めをお持ちの方は、お化粧の上からティッシュなどで 軽く 皮脂を落としスポンジなどで 薄くのばしていき仕上げにフェイスパウダーをつければ完成です。 面倒な方は、スプレータイプの日焼け止めだと 手軽に塗り直しができるので オススメです！ お顔には、刺激の少ないやさしい日焼け止めを使ってくださいね。 Hello everyone! It is almost hot summer in Dallas again. It's common to use a sun protective umbrella in Japan, although it's not so common here. Do you use skin care products? Even if you invest a lot into the products, you might not feel a big difference. You might have heard that UV rays are not good for your skin. In fact, some dermatologists say that you need to spend more of your money on sunscreen. Many of you might put sunscreen before applying foundation, but do you reapply it? It's important that you reapply sunscreen to ensure its effectiveness. If you have cream sunscreen, you first blot your makeup on your face with tissue paper, then reapply it with a sponge. As a final step, you can put face powder. If you don't feel like following all of these steps, spray sunscreen is easier! For your face, make sure to use milder sunscreen.
