Q1. ずっと仕事を続けるにあたり、幼少（あるいは若いころ）影響を受けた人を一人か二人挙げてください。
Who motivated you to pursue your long-term career?
Answer 両親がやりたいことに全面サポートしてくれたことです。特に父親は学びの大切さ、そしてそこから得ることができる可能性の幅が広がることを教えてくれました。折角そこまでサポートしてもらったのだから、これまで得た学んだことを活かして仕事でもなんにでもチャレンジして、そのチャレンジの種類の分だけ自分独自のCore competenciesを得てユニークな存在として社会に貢献することのできる場を模索し続けることがモットーとなりました。
My parents were always supportive of me to try different things. My father always encouraged me to keep learning and to broaden my possibilities of accomplishing my goals and finding purpose. With the full support from my parents, I wanted to contribute as much as I could to society based on my experience and competencies that I gained through the different challenges I encountered.
Q2. アメリカに来たきっかけを教えて下さい。
What made you decide to come to the United States?
Answer 小学校6年生に英語の塾に通い始めてから英語大好きな中学生でした。高校も県内で英語学習に力を入れている学校へ進み、高校2年生の時に短期交換留学プログラムでオクラホマの公立高校に来たのがきっかけです。その後、日本で高校を卒業してまたオクラホマの私立大学へ戻り、その後ずっとアメリカです。
Since I started learning English as 6th grader, I fell in love with the English language! I went to high school also known as having an intensive English program in Japan and joined their exchange program to study in a public school in Ada, Oklahoma. After studying in Oklahoma for a semester, I went back to Japan and graduated from high school and came back to Oklahoma for college education and the rest is history!
Q3. 今後DJCWをどのように発展させていきたいですか？
How would you like to develop DJCW?
Answer 生まれ育った日本を離れ、アメリカという地で仕事をしていく女性という3つの共通項を共有するグループが直面する特有なトピックや相互理解・サポートの場となっていけば良いなと思います。
日本とアメリカという国の両方、ひいてはその他の国へのグローバルな視点を向けた経験から得られる異文化理解を持つ者同士がそういった特有のバックグラウンドを持つことによって得る興味について、英語でも日本語でも自分が使い易い言語で相互理解を深める場となればよいなーと思っております。
また働くママグループのリーダーとして、働くことと子育ての両立のコツや悩みなどを共有することができるサポートグループを作って、このChallengingでRewardingな子育ての時期を楽しみながら共に乗り越えていける同士に出会える場所となればいいなーと思って日々邁進しております。みなさまのご意見・ご協力お願いします！
I want DJCW to be a platform for Japanese women who work in the U.S. to be able to share different topics and challenges through their unique experiences and support each other with their comfortable languages, “Japanglish”- mix of English and Japanese! As a leader of Working Mother’s Group, I would like to create a friendly co-supporting group and hope this group will help each working mom to enjoy this challenging and rewarding stage of their lives. I appreciate any suggestions and comments for the success of the group!
Q4. これから社会に出てキャリアウーマンを目指している女子学生に対して一言。
What is your advise for female students who are willing to pursue as career women?
Answer 女性は様々なライフステージによって環境がガラリと変わっていきます。そのたびに優先順位も変わっていきますが、毎瞬・毎回全力を尽くしている自分を労わってあげてください。 あの時こうしていれば、どうして今までこのことに気づかなかったのか？と思い自分を鼓舞し続けてしまいがちです。でも、「試してみることに失敗はない。 Experiments never fail. 」 ～マックス・エルモア～ 「何かを学ぶためには、自分で体験する以上に良い方法はない。The only source of knowledge is experience.」
～アルバート・アインシュタイン～ というように、何事も試して・体験することに間違いはない！という思いで、もっと上手く出来たのではないかと後から思うのではなく、試した自分を労わることを忘れず前進していこうというこの先人の言葉がキャリアウーマンの皆さんにも役立つようであれば嬉しいです。
I think women have different daily schedules/routines at different life stages. And our priorities change at different stage of life as well. I think it is important for the young professional ladies to practice self-love and acknowledge that they are doing their best at each stage. It is natural for people to often find themselves thinking about their could-haves and should-haves in their past. When that happens to me, I try to remind myself with my favorite quotes: “Experiments never fail.” by Max Elmore “The only source of knowledge is experience.” by Albert Einstein I hope these help for others, too.
