The Untold History of Ikebana: From Monks and Samurai to America
Would you like to experience the beauty of
Japanese “Wa” — harmony — through a single flower?
In this workshop, you'll not only experience creating
a simple ichirinzashi (single-stem) arrangement using familiar flowers,
but also learn about ikebana, which was designated as
an Intangible Cultural Property of Japan in 2024.
We’ll explore its history and cultural background,
along with practical tips on how to care for seasonal flowers
like roses and hydrangeas to enjoy them longer.
You'll also discover the little-known history of ikebana — a 560-year-old tradition
that began with monks, was embraced by samurai,
and eventually made its way to the United States.
